Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans are one of the most popular sweets in the wizarding world. They are almost the same as Muggle jelly beans, except the range includes almost every flavour imaginable. It is very difficult to tell for sure what flavour any given bean is without tasting it, although you can try and guess by the colour....at your own risk!
The inventor of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans was Bertie Bott as the name suggests, who created them in mid-20th century mostly by mistake. He intended to make tasty sweets, but it seems he was not very good at it as he accidentally made a jellybean that tasted like a dirty sock. He however immediately recognised the sales potential of "a risk with every mouthful!" which became the slogan for the Jellybeans.
There are ordinary flavours like blueberry, cherry, and cinnamon, but also includes less desirable ones like sausage, earthworm, and rotten egg. There are also flavours that are not even actual food items such as; grass, dirt, vomit, earwax, paper, and bogeys.
"Ah! Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans! I was most unfortunate in my youth to come across a vomit-flavoured one. And since then, I'm afraid I've lost my liking for them. But I think I could be safe with a nice toffee... Hum! Alas! Earwax."— Albus Dumbledore
The beans are a very popular treat at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and can usually be bought off the lunch trolley on the Hogwarts Express and in Honeydukes.
The beans are so popular that they were even advertised at the prestigious Quidditch World Cup on a big screen.
In the real world, Jelly Belly released jelly beans with selected flavours from the series. There are currently 25 flavours available. The sweets were reviewed by Candy Addict as #4 of the "10 grossest candies."
Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans can be purchased in South Africa via our Online Store!
